Collector coins of the Republic of Armenia-2019
Dear reader,
We are pleased to present our annual journal of the “Collector Coins of the Republic of Armenia”, which is dedicated to the coins issued by the Central Bank of Armenia in 2019.
The year was outstanding for a number of historic events and anniversary celebrations of prominent Armenians. In 2019, the Central Bank of Armenia issued collector coins to mark the 150th anniversary of two great Armenians _ Hovhannes Tumanyan and Komitas. These anniversaries virtually deserve not only national but also all-human resonance and significance. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries these figures had their unique imprint on the history of Armenian culture thanks to their achievements and accomplishments in the field of literature and music, respectively. In the most difficult period for Armenian people when they were suffering severest political and social turbulence, they became symbols of the survival and victory of the Armenian spirit.
The jubilee issues of 2019 included collector coins dedicated to the 150th anniversaries of philanthropist Galouste Gulbenkian and painter Vartan Mahokian and to the 125th anniversary of Admiral Isakov. The coins not only broadly feature (through trilingual booklets attached to collector coins) these devotees contribution to the economic and cultural development of the motherland, their efforts to promote peace and prosperity, but they are also set to perpetuate their fame in the international arena.
The year saw the 5th anniversary of the Eurasian Economic Union. A beautiful collector coin “5 Years of the Eurasian Economic Union” was issued on this occasion, marking the achievements of the member states over the past five years in expanding economic ties and strengthening a unified economic policy.
In 2019 we celebrated two landmark events: 100th anniversaries of the National Museum of History of Armenia and the Yerevan State University. The Central Bank of Armenia launched the issue of the relevant collector coins.
It is noteworthy, that the collector coin “The Year of the Caucasian Leopard” was among the issues of the year. The coin marked the return of this rare animal to the Khosrov Forest Reserve of the Republic of Armenia. Reappearing of the leopard in the ancient habitat became a unique symbol of Armenia’s marvelous nature and wildlife.
I would like to conclude my address talking of a joyous event: at the 13th International Contest of Coin Constellation held in Russia in 2019, the Central Bank of Armenia earned an honorary award for its silver collector coin “Yerevan-2800” in the nomination “Collector Coin of the Year”. This new trophy, coupled with good quality and high artistry of the 2019 issues are undoubtedly a clear proof of the teamed and professional performance of people working in the field of coin issuance.
