ARMENIAN VIPER
This silver commemorative coin depicting Armenian Viper has been issued by the Central Bank of
Armenia under the International Program "Wild World of Caucasus". The Program includes animals that
are protected under the Red Book of Armenia.
Armenian Viper dwells on stony steep slopes of the mountains and in canyons covered by thinly
growing oaken forests and other woods and shrubs at the height of 1100-2300 meters above sea level.
Presently, the areas of habitation of Armenian Viper have considerably changed due to agricultural
reclamation of lands.
The number of these species ranges from 4 to 6 per hectare on average. The total number
reaches 1000-1500 species. Designed by Roussana and Andrzey Nowakowscy.
