GANDZASAR MONASTERY

The silver commemorative coin with nominal value of 100 drams issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia is dedicated to the Gandzasar Monastery. A monastery in Mets Aranq district of Artsakh province, on the left bank of Khachen river (currently in Martakert district, Karabakh). Named after the hill, on which is built and bowels of which contain beds of silver and other metals. The complex of the Gandzasar Monastery comprises St. Hovhannes Mkrtich church and a court surrounded by walls, dwelling cells nearby, a refectory and a school. The church and the court of the Gandzasar Monastery are by right ranked among the treasuries of the Armenian Christian architecture.
