The 1000-th Anniversary of the 'Book of Sadness'

BOOK OF SADNESS
The commemorative coin issued by the Central Bank of Armenia is dedicated to the 1000-th
anniversary of the poem "Book of Sadness" written by Grigor Narekatsi (951-1003), an Armenian poet
and philosopher in the Middle Ages. The poem is known for the name "Narek". It has drawn a great
influence on the development of Armenian literature. The poem has been a source for inspiration to
many remarkable poets of the Middle Ages and later centuries.
The poem "Book of Sadness" is placed among the greatest art values the humankind has ever
