NEW MILLENNIUM
| The St.Gevorg Savor commemorative coin issued by the Central Bank of Armenia is dedicated to
the New Millennium. According to the christian chronicle St. Gevorg was a contemporary of the Roman
emperor Diocletian (284-305) and lived in Minor Asia. Being of noble origin he got a high military
rank. During the tortures of christians he was beheaded because of his faith. For his tortures
Gevorg was canonized. It is accepted to depict St.Gevorg riding a horse - winning a dragon. It has
a sumbolic meaning - struggle against evil, devil might and tyranny. |
